Narrow zone of Pinus virginiana on cliff top. Down drainage grades to more Quercus alba with Thelypteris noveborecensis, then to extensive Tsuga canadensis/Rhododendron maximum (see John Wood's hemlock plot data).;Dipslope of plateau back from cliff band. Slope descends back to low gradient drainage. Forest dominated by Quercus prinus and Quercus rubra with Kalmia latifolia in understory. Heavy leaf litter on ground with sparse herb cover and diversity (no herbs in plot!). Deep residual soil (sand) weathered from sandstone.
